Comparing Yields of White Widow from Different Brands

White Widow. The name alone carries weight—like a whispered rumor in a grow room, or a half-remembered trip from the late '90s. Everyone's grown it, smoked it, or at least pretended to. But here's the thing: not all White Widow is created equal. You’d think a classic strain like this would be consistent across brands. Nope. Not even close.

So I ran a little experiment. Grabbed seeds from four different seed banks—Dutch Passion, Green House, Seedsman, and Royal Queen. Grew them side by side. Same soil, same lights, same water schedule. No cheating. Just wanted to see what shook out. And man, the differences? Wild.

Green House’s version looked the part—chunky buds, frosty as hell. But the yield? Meh. About 350 grams per square meter. Not terrible, not great. It smelled like old-school Amsterdam though, that peppery pine funk. Nostalgic. But I couldn’t help feeling a little underwhelmed. Like it peaked in '98 and never evolved.

Now Dutch Passion. These guys don’t mess around. Their Widow was a beast—topped at week 4, bounced back like it had something to prove. Ended up pulling 500 grams per square. Dense nugs, sticky as sin. Smoked clean too. Almost too clean. Like it had been filtered through a Brita. I missed the grit.

Seedsman surprised me. Honestly thought they were gonna be the budget option, but their Widow came out swinging. Not the biggest yielder—maybe 420 grams—but it had this weird citrus note that cut through the usual earthy haze. And it hit hard. Like, couch-lock-you-mid-conversation hard. I liked it. Made me forget what I was doing. Twice.

Royal Queen? Eh. Pretty plants, sure. But airy buds. Fluffy. Like popcorn that never popped right. Yield was around 300 grams, and I had to baby them through flower. Sensitive to nutes, finicky with humidity. Just not worth the hassle. Felt like dating someone too pretty to be interesting.

So what’s the takeaway? Depends what you want. If you’re chasing weight—Dutch Passion. No contest. If you want flavor and a punch to the dome—Seedsman. Green House if you’re feeling nostalgic and don’t mind a lighter haul. Royal Queen? Pass. Unless you like disappointment dressed in trichomes.

Also—side note—terp profiles varied way more than I expected. Same strain name, totally different vibes. Makes you wonder how many “White Widows” are actually just second cousins wearing the same jacket.

Anyway. Grow what you like. But don’t trust the label. Trust your nose. And maybe your scale.
